This turned into a lifelong commitment. Following two tours of duty in Viet Nam (1971-73) with the US Air Force, I returned home and accepted a position with the US Postal Service with whom I am still employed as an Electronic Technician. I am married to my dearest and closest friend Laurel, we have three children and one grandchild. A Desert Division workshop at a local train store rekindled my interest in trains and the world of collecting. I became a very active TCA member and have served the Division and National continuously since 1995. I´m also an Amateur Radio (Ham) operator, a National Weather Service certified Skywarn observer "Storm Chaser", and with Laurel, active in our church´s nursery, welcoming ministries, and single parent car repair clinics.TCA Goals The TCA is a great club but our successes of the past are threatened by the challenges of the future. Innovative ways to involve young and old alike in our hobby is of paramount importance. Plenty of "baby boomers" are retiring and may not even realize how much they loved their trains. Our job is to rekindle that fire! How? The greatest potential lies in the Internet, and particularly our websites and electronic publications. A national program modeled after the Desert Division "Trains for Kids", could get hundreds of train sets into the hands of needy children. The national exposure of such a program would help foster increased media attention. Our National Toy Train Museum needs to be nurtured and expanded, and our current members must be motivated to make donations of effort, trains, brainpower, and money to insure that the TCA will not diminish. I vow to do everything in my power to keep this organization the premier collecting club it is, has been, and can be. | |
